Bookcrossing Meet-Up

Saturday 7th Nov 2009, 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm - Salcey Forest

This event is organised by Bookcrossing

Bookcrossing Meet-Up

Come and meet other readers and swap books in Salcey Forest

Here's the info for what to expect at the next Salcey Forest meet...
* We'll meet at the cafe from 12.30pm, there's lots of nice lunch choices- hot and cold, no need to book, but if you want to bring your own pack-up then you'll need to eat it in your car rather than at the cafe tables.
* Plenty of chatting whilst perusing the table of availables that bookcrossers have brought (always gazillions!).
* Traditional release walk along the 'elephant walk' and up the aerial walkway- PLEASE bring bags for the wild release books (they don't have to be supply store ones, supermarket freezer/ sandwich bags do the job nicely).
* Bookswap game- bring along a book you've enjoyed wrapped (in a jiffy bag/ newpaper/ fancy-schmancy gift wrap/ whatever so long as it's hidden) and we'll explain the rules to anyone who hasn't played before.
* It all tend to wind down around 4ish but people can stay for as long or little as they wish.
* Kids and dogs welcome.
* Check the weather and wear appropriate footwear, the walk is along paths but they're sometimes still a bit muddy.
* Postcode is NN7 2HA for sat-navvers.
Looking forward to seeing old and new faces.

If you come with books and no labels, that is they are not already registered on the bookcrossing site - then you miss the fun of tracking where your books have gone after you set them free!

You need to join the bookcrossing site, then click on Register book on the top left, and but in the details of your book and then get a BCID (a number in 2 parts - eg 123-4567890 At the very least write this number inside the front cover of your book and I'll bring my info stamp to put inside the book before you release them tomorrow.

You can come with no books, but if you do bring books it is much more fun if you register them, so then you will read comments from future readers and see your books travel!

I have a large supply of home made labels which I use in my books, as well as stamps and stickers from the site, which all go to help people notice your books as being bookcrossing books so they know what to do with them (apart from read them of course!)

We have to add labels ??? What if we come with books and no labels ???

I'm probably going to go. I think I can find a book or tewo in the 5000+ we have that I don't need. I have to say, I probably have enough books to keep me going for ten years or more, that I haven't read.

I might only have a handful though. :)

If you enjoy reading you would be welcome to attend anyway. Bookcrossing is fabulous for finding new authors, everyone always has a few books which they force on you saying' you must read this'. Nobody counts how many books you bring or take - many of us have far too many we need to get rid of!

In fact I don't buy any books anymore since bookcrossing, I get popular titles at library sales and take them to bookcrossing events and swap with others, I have enough books to be read on my shelves to last me a couple of years now, and the WI book club is nor getting in the way of me working through the pile!

Release/swap my prized possessions? Why would I want to do that? :o

But all those books needing to go to good homes too.

I may be able to find some books to 'release/swap'. I can't say they will be the ones I really love, that's just too scary by far. :lol:

i have to agree, some of my collection i have re-read countless times - I too find it scary, but love the idea :D I enthuse about my books and all books and have often told my children their imaginations are much better than any film special effects can ever be, don't get me wrong i am not anti-film or TV (although it has been known for me to rant at the TV when an adaption has missed vital parts of the story line out e.g. i am never allowed to watch the Golden Compass again :roll: ), but I know which I would choose.

Having recently moved in, I did cast an eye over my collection and about the only one I could bear to part ith is a duplication some one bought me one year for xmas, guess i am not the ideal member :D Although do enjoy benefitting everytime I am in the Rose and Crown :D

Lol - some people just find bookcrossing just too painful!

My sister loves the idea, but loves collecting books too, so she buys cheap charity shop copies to bookcross and keeps her lovely collection!

You would be welcome to come along, even if you have not yet joined the bookcrossing site, just to see what a lovely friendly bunch we are!
