Fascinating document detailing history of Hartwell has been published online for the first time

This news relates to Hartwell Parish Plan

The Hartwell Parish Appraisal 2000, a historical record and appraisal published in 1993, has been published online for the first time

In 1991, the Parish Council decided to participate in Parish 2000 - a project to encourage Parish Councils to produce a document about their communities incorporating a historical record and an up to date picture of the community.

It is a fascinating read, providing information on the originals of Hartwell, the history of the villagers, the buildings and the businesses, all backed up with diagrams and photos. It also provides a detailed snapshot of the village in the early nineties.

It is a very detailed account, and you can see the work that Betty Cambers, Judy Webster, Angela Evans and Angela Malin put into the project.

As the village embarks on the Parish Plan, a project aiming to look ahead at the future of the village, it is thought-provoking reading about where the village has come from.

Thanks to the Parish Council for providing a copy to be added to the website.

All the photos and documents used to produce the report are lodged in the records office - I am hoping that, as part of the Parish Plan, we will be doing a history event with all the photos (and videos!)
