In recognition of her ‘tremendous’ sculpture making work, Hartwell based artist Linda Johns was presented with an outstanding achievement award by the Kelmarsh Hall Trust and South Northamptonshire Council at the launch of this year’s Northamptonshire Open Studios – the largest visual arts event in the county.
Two of Linda’s sculptures were on display at Kelmarsh Hall - Falling Seeds, which has also been seen as part of the Salcey Forest art trail, and the wire sculpture piece, Head Weave, – both of which form part of the central exhibition of work by artists from around the county who are taking part in the Northamptonshire Open Studios scheme.
A key supporter of Northampton Open Studios is the Chairman of South Northamptonshire Council, Councillor Dermot Bambridge. Councillor Bambridge said: “The quality and range of work on display in the hall and gardens is tremendous. I am delighted to see all kinds of artwork by artists, sculptors, craft makers and photographers from South Northamptonshire represented in the county’s central show. There are many more who are inviting the general public into their homes and studios over the coming fortnight, to see how they work, as well as the finished results. It’s a great scheme, organised by the artists themselves, which South Northamptonshire Council is pleased to support with a grant and brochure distribution.”
Other examples of Linda Johns’ work can be seen at The Open University, Milton Keynes.
Details of artists participating in Northamptonshire Open Studios 2010, which continues until 19 September, can be found on: www.openstudios.org.uk.

Congratulations Linda! You showed us that creativity doesn't have to cost much money. Its amazing what mud, blackberries and tea can produce, along with dried grass products. Well done! Hartwell Ladies Group, otherwise known as WI
