26th-30th October 9.30am - 4.30pm at various locations
Get your electric blanket tested, if its dangerous we'll replace it for FREE
According to the Electrical Safety Council, in one year nearly 70% of electric blankets tested were found to have safety issues, electric blanket testing days have shown that many people have been using blankets that are old and potentially unsafe. Many people just aren't aware of the dangers.
The Trading Standards service has organised many electric blanket testing days in the county for a number of years and this year we have organised a whole week of testing at venues across the county.
People will need to make an appointment to have the electric blanket tested, which should be made through Age Concern 01604 611200/01604 611209. This event is not just aimed at the elderly but anyone who has an electric blanket. The electric blankets are tested for free and if they are found to be faulty they will be replaced with a free blanket of a similar size, but possibly not the same specification. Only one free blanket per household will be issued. The old blankets will be recycled as far as is feasible.
Although electric blankets are made to strict safety standards, any blanket which is used or stored incorrectly or is more than ten years old may be a fire risk.
Dates & Venues 9.30am - 4.30pm
