The new site goes live!

Published on 28th September 2009 7:57pm

This news relates to Hartwell Community Website

It has been a mammoth task, but the new hartwellvillage.com is finally live!

It seems quite a long time ago when I, perhaps foolishly, announced that I would have a new version of hartwellvillage.com ready for launch at the start of the new year.

Deadlines came and went - the ideas I had grew and grew and my spare time evaporated.

But finally here we are - the all new shiny green hartwellvillage.com (which you can view at hartwellvillage.com/home). The site isn't officially launched (so it isn't the default homepage for the site), but it is publicly accessible and ready to be filled with content.

What makes this site so special is that, rather than just being me, anyone can add content to the site. If you know of an event, group, or business, and it isn't listed, then add it! I have tried to make this as simple as possible, but you can always find help by clicking the orange "Need Help" button, or by posting on the forum.

The other thing I have tried to do is allow groups (and businesses) in and around the village to, if they wish, have a bit more control over events and news that relates to them. I have done a couple of guides which help explain:

It was quite a key, yet difficult decision, to separate content from the forum, but hopefully I have found a nice balance between having more structured content which is more accessible to people who may have been put off by the forum, but whilst retaining the ability for people to still discuss what is happening in the village and surrounding area.

This website is truly a community website, not only do you have the power to add your own content, but it is also run on a not-for-profit basis (and all my time has been donated free of charge).

I hope you like it - I would love to hear your feedback, and suggestions for improvements, so if you have any comments, please post them on the forum!

Happy browsing!

Phil

Thanks Siric - I am really pleased with it. :D

I should of course thank all the many people who I have bored senseless about my big ideas for months on end, the initial alpha testers, and of course the fantastic moderation team (who will have lots of work on their hands!)

I've just noticed this message, more work????????
