Update from Ashwood Acre - Hartwell Pocket Park

A very big thank you to everyone who helped at the Hay Rake and Family Picnic earlier in the month. Having so many people helping and the slow growth of the grass during a dry July made for an easier job this year so we were able to get on with the eating and drinking fairly early. We hope every one who came enjoyed themselves. It was particularly good to see some new faces and to sign up several new Friends. If you are one of the new faces and/or new Friends – a very warm welcome!

The next working party is coming up fast. Saturday 16th October 2.00 – 4.30 p.m. This will be a more routine event (but there will be refreshments). We need to get on with cutting back some of the hedgerows in the park and cutting away grass and mulching at the base of the more recently planted trees. The butterfly bank needs tidying up and if the grass is reasonably dry we’ll probably mow the path edges. We’ll also plant some bulbs. There are suitable jobs for most ages and all levels of fitness. If the weather is reasonably fine the park could be a very nice place to be in mid October.

Thanks to all who gave a hand with the Produce Show refreshments. The organisers of the show – who work extremely hard to see that this enjoyable village event continues - have donated a very generous £280 towards the park finances. We are most grateful for this.
