Watch out for a slight change in the voter registration form

Today I received my South Northamptonshire Voter Registration Form - a document that needs to detail all residents living at each property in the village.

The Registration Form, which can also be completed online, needs to be completed by 22nd September 2010 - and there is a fine of £1000 if it is not completed.

However please note the warning on the accompanying documentation:

Please check the edited register opt out status of every person on this form. It may have changed from last year

The edited register is available for general sale and can be used for any purpose, including commercial activities such as marketing. 

Despite having opted out of the edited register ever since I could vote, this latest form now does not mark my opt out status, so please check careful your form before sending it back to make sure you have the correct opt out status.

If it was a commercial company suddenly changing the status of your opt-out to receive marketing information, I am pretty sure there would be legal issues relating to data protection.
